The longest flute approximately 40 inches, from the woodwinds family, the OM flute produces a deep and soothing sound. This flute has been specially designed to reach an octave lower than the usual flutes. This flute can be used to render Alaap in the lowermost octave especially when performing with a vocalist. Performers usually use this flute, mainly the A, when playing a flute in the E scale as the A note forms the Shudh Madhyam in the Scale of E. The name “OM” comes from the sound of Om that this flute produces.
